... and all I can say is... thank our higher powers. I have been stunned for the last few days. But now is not the time to sit back and feel accomplished or safe. Now is the time to speak up and maybe... maybe... our voices will be heard.
I watched a documentary tonight: Body of War. It made me sad and it made me angry. It reignited my opposition to the war in Iraq.
I told my husband that I was ready to rejoin the good people protesting the war. You may not know this about us but my husband works for a defense contractor. It has paid our bills and afforded us a decent living.
He has not had a day off for two weeks because of demand from our government. I admitted to him that I would basically be protesting his work. It would be against our interests to protest the war.
"That would be the best layoff check I ever got... if what I do is no longer needed I would be so happy. There has to be something better I can do with my life."
And that... my friends... is one of the reasons I love him so.
PS... Tomas Young and Senator Robert Byrd are both examples of true American heroes.
Bless.

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do and that aint a bad thing.......
Snake... I do love you! Thanks for the comment.
We were right back out there the next day, Kindness, with our signs and the passers by seem to understand completely. We cannot let ending the Iraq War become a back burner issue, ever. Bravo to you. Mary Ann Schallert, IVAW - Ft. Lewis Washington Chapter; VFP, Rachel Corrie Chapter, Olympia, WA
It's all very well telling us that the election is over, but you should have told us who won.
As you know Kindness, that war, and any war I guess, completely breaks my heart. I hate Bush and Blair, and if Obama can get an end to the nonsense that never should have happened, then god bless him.
I so hope the optimism following Obama's election doesn't dissipate the way it did with Blair - it lasted two weeks with that creep.
Hats off to BG!
You've never stopped protesting, Sweetie, it's just sometimes you're more visible doing it. :)
The whole world heaved a giant sigh when Obama made it. God bless and keep him...
Hun, just because he works for a defense contractor does not mean he is supporting any illegitimate use of his company's services. We DO need people, including our brave troops, contributing to our national security. So, no, we do not need you guys to sacrifice your well being simply to make a statement, unless your livelihood was actually based on perpetrating some sort of war crime.
We are proud of your husbands and sons contributions. And we are proud of YOU!
ty mary ann, I am honored by your comment and I will be back at it again soon. End the War.
Oh Vicus... LOL. I am an Obama mama or didn't you know?
Yes Tom. You do have a tender heart just like mine and we share the same sentiments. I have so much hope for restored respect amongst our allies. Please see this video although I am sure it will be tough to watch. Let's chat soon.
Jules... you are truly a shining gem among those of us who are still in the rough. God bless and keep you and him.
Michael... thank you for your loving words. We just need our national security focus to return to our shores. Our son goes back at it in April.
Thanks and much love to all.
I hate the WAR not the WARRIORS.
Whenever Old Men go to war Young Men die in their place.
We should just let the ideologues slug it out. I'll bet you anything that they'd stop acting so tough.
I hate the way that the politicians write cheques with their mouth that their ass can't cash.
Meanwhile the rest of the world is doin' it's own thing...it's as if the Police went out on strike? I wonder if those Somali Pirates would be this bold if all of the Military manpower wasn't focussed on the Middle East?
Good points Common Tater!
BTW... I love your new av!
